Thanks for visiting Orphaned Apparel! My name is Heather, and I own too many lace shirts, keep a lot of my Halloween decorations out year-round, and am pretty much always listening to music. I create all of the content you see here on the Orphaned Apparel website, and its accompanying social media outlets. Below are answers to some of my most frequently asked questions. Years ago, I ran two separate sites: one where I made playlists and wrote album reviews, and another where I sold thrifted vintage clothing, hence the name "Orphaned Apparel." Eventually, as I started moving more into selling band shirts, I decided to merge both sites into one. I know the name doesn't exactly fit anymore now that I'm selling new items rather than used, but I like it and haven't really considered changing it. Plus who knows; maybe I'll start adding some vintage back into the mix! What do you listen to? I make a point to rotate through as many genres as I can. Over the past few years, most of my listening habits have purely been exercises in educating myself in areas I'm not familiar with. Plus it's a goal of mine to have as wide of a variety of playlists on the music page as possible. I also tend to go through phases. I'll have a period where I can't get enough old school blues and R&B, then my taste will switch and I'll only want to listen to traditional folk for a while, etc. Without fail though, I'm always in the mood for what I would describe as "southern gothic that sounds like it was recorded in a haunted swamp." Who are your favorite artists? The more music I listen to, the farther away the ability to confidently answer that moves. So I'll just say Tom Waits, and leave it at that for now. What are your favorite albums? I definitely intend to sit down one day and compose a comprehensive list on this subject. 'Til then though, I predict Over the Rhine's Ohio, Dr. John's Gris Gris, and Lykke Li's Wounded Rhymes will make the cut. What are your favorite songs? Right now I'm working on a playlist for this! A few that will be on there: Rev. Gary Davis' "Death Don't Have No Mercy," Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come," Bessie Smith's "Send Me to the 'Lectric Chair," and Etta James' "God's Song." How many boots do you own? 59 pairs! How would you describe your style? A friend once called it grown up goth grunge. I now aspire to live up to that. What make-up brands do you use? For the most part BH Cosmetics, e.l.f., KVD Vegan Beauty, Wet n Wild, ColourPop, NYX, Pretty Vulgar, and Sinful Colors. Have a question? Email hello [ @ ] orphanedapparel.com. |
